Owners of award winning Sheffield gastro pub to launch new wine bar

April 2010

Owners of the award winning gastro pub, The Milestone, have announced plans to launch a new venture in the increasingly popular Kelham Island area of Sheffield in summer 2010.

The Milestone owners Matt Bigland and Marc Sheldon will open the new premises, called Slave to the Vine, in close proximity to The Milestone, which will include a wine bar, an independent wine shop and cookery school.

The launch of the new wine bar is scheduled for summer 2010 and plans are in place to create a concept that will complement their original establishment in the thriving Kelham Island area.

Matt Bigland owner of the Milestone said

“We are extremely excited to announce the opening of our next establishment, which is the first stage of our ongoing development plans.

“We launched The Milestone in 2007 and now that it is firmly established as a destination venue in Sheffield for eating and drinking, this is the natural next step. We’re confident it’s the right time to bring a complimentary venue to the area and one that our current guests, as well as new ones, will enjoy.”

Marc Sheldon added,

“As well as a wine bar the new venture will be home to our independent wine shop and our increasing popular cooking school.

“We already deliver an extremely popular programme of classes through the Milestone Cookery School which is always oversubscribed and the new venue gives us a permanent base for the school and flexibility to deliver more classes.

“We also plan to sell a considered selection of quality wines in the wine shop – many of which will also be available to customers drinking in the new wine bar.”

The announcement to launch this second and related venture follows a successful 2009 for The Milestone team who were awarded a prestigious Michelin-recommendation in the Michelin Guide to Eating out in Pubs 2010 and won the award for Best Restaurant at the eatSheffield Awards 2009.
