Crocodile snapped on the loose in Sheffield
News item: 17 Dec 2010
Unsuspecting Christmas shoppers were today surprised by a runaway three metre crocodile that went on the loose in Sheffield.
Escaping from the clutches of the evil Captain Hook, the fleeing crocodile departed Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre and headed straight to the Wild Planet Exhibition on The Moor.
It appears the shocking green creature was attracted to the area by the stunning images of its fellow wild animals featured in the Exhibition.
Rob Marks, manager at the Wild Planet Exhibition retail store commented, “The gift shop was full of people at the time and the last thing we expected to see lurking outside was an enormous crocodile.
“Thankfully the pantomime crocodile was reasonably friendly and it was only the thought of Captain Hook arriving that made us all worry!”
Captain Hook and the escaped crocodile are currently starring in the spectacular and fun-packed Peter Pan at Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre. Nigel Planer stars as Captain Hook alongside Hayley Tamaddon and Sheffield’s favourite panto dame, Damian Williams. The show boasts dazzling sets and costumes, fabulous musical numbers, family comedy and plenty of audience participation!
The Wild Planet Exhibition, brought to the city by the Natural History Museum, depict some of the world’s wildest landscapes and most endangered species. Gifts and memorabilia inspired by the exhibition are on sale in the retail store, with many items only available in Sheffield.
Sheffield was chosen by the Natural History Museum to host the Wild Planet Exhibition thanks to the partnership between the Natural History Museum and Sheffield City Council.
